FAQ
Questions about Yoga and/or The Yoga Center of Cheshire, LLC:
1. What should I wear to yoga? Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Always bring an outer layer you can remove as your temperature will fluctuate during the practice. We practice yoga in bare feet, but, do bring socks if your feet tend to get cold. All classes at YCC end with Shavasana, or corpse pose, and, the body cools rapidly during this time.
2. Should I bring a mat? If you have your own, by all means, bring it. If not, we have mats to borrow and for sale.
3. Do I need anything else? Not really!!! Yoga is pretty simple as far as equipment!! A good mat, comfortable clothes. The Center provides props such as blocks and straps. Do bring a water bottle. If you forget, we have water for sale as well.
4. How's the parking? Free and ample!! Well lit and safe!!
5. We recommend you eat at least (2) hours before you practice to give your stomach time to digest your food.
6. Do I need to sign up for a series or can I just drop in? All of our classes are ongoing drop in classes, there is no need to pre-register or sign up. Just come to the class you wish to attend. If it's your first time, come about 15 minutes early and please let the instructor know you are new to the Yoga Center.
Commonly Used words or Phrases:
Namaste: The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama" means bow, "as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you." To perform Namaste, we place the hands together at the heart charka, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especially deep form of respect. Although in the West the word "Namaste" is usually spoken in conjunction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namaste, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing. Namate is often translated literally as, "The divine within me bows to the divine within you."
